Swimspire is excited to present the Talbot Country Club, located in Easton, Maryland! We will be working with the Country Club during the summers to host specialized technique clinics and offer individual swimming consultation that provides clients with detailed feedback on their swimming stroke in a focused setting.

General Manager Otto Hartman oversees operations at the Talbot Country Club, which includes amenities such as an 18-hole championship golf course, tennis courts, and elegant dining experiences, in addition to its 6-lane Olympic-sized swimming pool. This private club seeks to offer its members access to exclusive opportunities for their overall health, well-being and entertainment.

Swimspire hopes to help further the goals for the aquatics side of the Country Club, and we sat down with Aquatics Director Amanda Cooper Adams to learn more about the Club and its goals for the future.

JG: Tell us a bit about your own background in swimming and how you first become involved with the Talbot Country Club?

ACA: I have had a passion for swimming since I was a little girl. I first learned to swim through the Easton Family YMCA, a branch of the YMCA of the Chesapeake, in its group swim lesson program, and through private swim lessons. In turn, I dedicated fifteen years of service to that organization and used my passion for swimming to help others. Over the last sixteen years of my career, I have felt driven to help those in my community experience what the best of the Eastern Shore has to offer, and ensure that I can save as many lives as possible.  I’ve accomplished this through my experience as an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and a former YMCA of the USA and American Red Cross Swim Lesson Instructor and Trainer. Learning how to swim can open so many avenues for people from all walks of life and ages, whether it be for recreational, health or competitive reasons. During my fifteen years at the YMCA of the Chesapeake, I would leave during the summers to gain management experience in the aquatic field. In 2009 and 2010, I was blessed to begin working for the Talbot Country Club as a seasonal Aquatic Director. I have returned to the Club this summer while I am on break from school to try to start a full-time career in the medical field, and pursue my passion for helping those in my community even further. I treasure my time with the Talbot Country Club and its membership.

JG: Tell us about the Talbot Country Club – what does it offer and what are some of the goals for the club?

The TCC offers golf courses, tennis courts, and other amenities in addition to the pool.

ACA: The Talbot Country Club offers an 18-hole championship golf course, a recently renovated practice facility, including a driving range, putting green, and practice area, a 25-yard swimming pool with a 12-foot deep end and a spring board, two recently resurfaced full-size tennis courts, three distinct dining experiences, year-round family and social events, and special events for friends and family. The goal of the club is to expand its membership to offer exclusive opportunities and privileges for a truly captivating experience. The most successful private clubs are those built around the foundation of enduring relationships and social camaraderie between friends and associates, and we are excited to showcase all that we have to offer. With that in mind, we are embarking on a campaign in which we are asking our current members to assist us in identifying those individuals whom they feel will properly embrace the culture and tradition of our Club and personally invite them to join.

JG: What are your goals for the swimming program at the Country Club?

The TCC pool offers a snack bar and dining area with both adult and kid-friendly options.

ACA:  One of my main goals is to offer our membership a wide range of activities in and around the pool for the summer season. These activities include paint nights, mosaic nights, family fun game night on Fridays, structured group swim lessons, private swim lessons, water fitness classes, stroke clinics and specialized coaching for adult and youth membership, in addition to enriching the camp program for our traditional camp which focuses on kids from ages four to eleven years.

JG: What makes the Country Club unique – swimming-wise – from other pools in the area?

ACA: The 6-lane, 25 yard swimming pool is equipped with a 12 foot deep end and a spring diving board, in addition to a wading pool area with a magnificent waterfront view.

JG: Where does the Talbot Country Club’s swimming program hope to be in ten years?

ACA: I hope the Talbot Country Club’s swimming program can blossom with more participation in group swim lessons, private swim lessons, youth & adult swim stroke clinics, specialized triathlete program training, larger water fitness Classes, and perhaps even a Masters adult swim team.

Thanks for your time, Amanda, and we are delighted to be working with you and with the Talbot Country Club! We will be offering a members-only stroke clinic on Monday, July 24th from 8-10 AM and we are looking forward to being there! Check out the Talbot Country Club website here.
